Why Choose Hawkeye?
Dominic Lazum wasn’t sure about college at first. It wasn’t until he connected with classmates and instructors that he started to feel like he was on the right track.
“I’m learning more here each semester,” he said. “I’ve had a great experience so far. The people here are very friendly and welcoming.”
A native of Burma, Dominic is involved in STEM Club, Gamers Club, and the International Students Club. He also volunteers in the community with the Boys and Girls Club every week.
“Being involved on campus has helped me manage my time,” he said. “It showed me what I can do in order to help others. Being involved at Hawkeye has made me a better person.”
Dominic plans to transfer to a four-year school after he graduates from Hawkeye. He feels like his Hawkeye education has prepared him to be reliable and independent, as well as have the skills to pursue his next degree.
“Make friends and don’t’ be discouraged by your mistakes—everyone makes them,” is his advice to fellow international students. “Don’t worry, just be yourself.”
